Fun Decorating Themes For A Boy’s Bedroom
By Devid AscottIt’s so much fun to decorate a child’s bedroom. The play of colors and designs just bring out the child in anyone. Everything looks so cute!
This is your time to step back and your son to step up. Allow his creative juices to flow and work with him to achieve his perfect bedroom.
Just like everything else, new eventually turns old. Color is no exemption, so sticking with the standard boy colors don’t work anymore. Yes, perhaps for his nursery it did. But now, he has his favorite colors or those hues that blend much better with the rest of the room’s furnishings. Be flexible and don’t argue blue should be the only color in his room.
Decorating children’s rooms is such a fun thing to do because of the endless themes. It’s like going back to preschool or reading children stories over again. The fun and excitement are contagious. For boys, decorating isn’t all that hard. There are numerous choices to select from.
Insects may sound gross to your delicate ears but boys love them. I’m sure you’ve fretted about your son’s friendship with bugs, worms, frogs, lizards and other crawling or hopping creatures. However, your boy must like them so it’ll be really sweet if you decorate his room with these things. Not the real things of course, but go to a children’s store and you’ll find stuffed animals, figurines, photos and other decors shaped or colored like these insects. See how in-demand these unattractive creatures are among children?
Another popular choice is anything about cars. Grown up men are crazy about cars (please don’t get me started), so just imagine the frenzy for the younger ones. F1 car racing is a well-known sport and if your son is an enthusiast, his room can be decked in black and white checkered flag bedspread, posters of his adored cars (great visualization technique for the future), racecar driver idols and a shelf to display his collection of toy cars.
Grrrrr….dinosaurs! This may be geared to the littlest guys. They move from friendly, cartoon like prehistoric animals to gnarling people-eating creatures in the blink of the eye. Since this phase may be short-lived, opt for linens and inexpensive artwork for decoration.
What is outer space like? This can be easily replicated in a boy’s room. Wall borders, linens, walls painted dark blue and rocket headboard complete the look. Remember the first science fair project you made? It probably was a model of the solar system. Make one using paints and varying sizes of Styrofoam craft balls to represent the planets – a totally fun project for all!
A very popular boy’s theme is sports. Whatever sport he is interested in, use the equipment and athletes to help you decorate the room. A baseball lamp, a soccer ball pillow, a basketball-printed bed sheet, a tennis ball-colored beanbag or posters of his favorite hockey players will express one of his joys in life.
If he is an artist, use his own artworks as the room’s decorations. They will look awesome as wall hangings or framed and placed neatly on a table or shelves. Make his bedroom his own art gallery. What a thrilling way for him to see a future of opening his own exhibit someday. And a great way to practice too.
Decorating is not just about the things you buy in children’s stores. More than anything, you should personalize his bedroom so it becomes an extension of himself. Anyone sees his room and they’ll know it’s his. Display photographs, achievements, collections, a prized possession such as a signed Jersey or a caught baseball from a home run (wow!)anything that is his. Not things that became his because you bought them from somewhere. Personalizing his room will make your son even more comfortable and connected to the place in the house that is his personal zone.
Boys can help their parents in decorating their bedrooms. There is a misconception that boys do not care about their room. That attitude is definitely changing. It is important for boys to feel like the room reflects their likes.
